Social and Emotional Learning at Narragansett Schools

Across the district, our educators and administration are continuously focused on how to offer support and unique ways of connecting students and their families to resources to maintain whole-body wellness.

WHAT IS SEL
Social and Emotional Learning refers to five interrelated competency areas as identified by the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). These five areas are Self Awareness, Social Awareness, Self-Management, Relationships and Responsible Decision Making.  By clicking the link below, you can review a full overview from the Rhode Island Department of Education.  LEARN MORE

SEL Implemented in all Three Schools

In 2019, the district appointed Karen Festa to help lead this initiative in all three of our schools.
Her focus is on facilitating Social Emotional Learning with Conscious Discipline and RULER. She will be spending time in classrooms guiding both teachers and students.
This is accomplished by creating positive approaches to recognizing why we react the way we do, how to support ourselves through trying times through recognizing our brain states, breathing strategies, and overall how to feel good about ourselves.

For more information about Conscious Discipline, please follow the below links.

For a better understanding of the program, below is a meaningful student reflection of how SEL can be incorporated in homes and schools.
