Water Advisory and Narragansett Schools

Water Advisory and Narragansett Schools
Posted on 09/01/2018

Dear Parents,

As I am sure you know, there is a “boil water” advisory in effect for Narragansett, including all Narragansett schools. We are closely monitoring the situation and are working with the Rhode Island Department of Health, the Town of Narragansett, and the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency. At this time, we do anticipate that school will be in session on Tuesday. However, it would be prudent to have back up child care plans in case the situation develops in such a manner that we may not have school or that we have to dismiss early.

To prepare for school under this “boil water” advisory, we are following guidelines developed by the Centers for Disease Control as well as Rhode Island Department of Health, both of which are linked below. We will have bottled water available for students for drinking and in the cafeterias for cooking, and we will have hand sanitizer available in lavatories. We have shut off all water fountains and other drinking water stations. We have been informed that the water may still be used for toilets, so lavatories will be available for students. We will provide guidance to students regarding proper procedures and hygiene, with a special focus on our youngest students who may need more specific supervision and instruction.

We do anticipate that our cafeteria menu may need to be flexible this week given the water situation, and our food service providers will adjust the menu to ensure student health and safety.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope that, despite this water emergency, all of our families enjoy the remainder of Labor Day weekend and our students have a wonderful beginning to the school year.
